Insurance Leadership Debate
This panel discussion will take place on Tuesday 13th June at 3.15pm. The panel are high profiled industry experts and there will be a chance for members to ask to questions during the debate.
Huw Edwards anchors Britain’s most popular TV news bulletin, BBC’s Ten O’Clock News. He also led the commentary of the spectacular opening ceremony at the London Olympics, watched by a record 27 million viewers in the UK alone.
Originally a Parliamentary Correspondent, Huw has since won a BAFTA award, made a cameo appearance in the Bond movie Skyfall and commentated on Barack Obama’s inauguration from a Washington rooftop. He has interviewed Presidents, Prime Ministers and major figures in all areas of public life.
Huw combines newsroom duties with presenting major state events, from Trooping the Colour to The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. He has filmed The History of Wales and made documentaries on Gladstone and Mozart, among many others, and regularly visits schools as ambassador for BBC News School Report.
Huw has a natural warmth and authority as an awards host and conference chair. He is also a gifted raconteur with a ready wit, as demonstrated in the panel game Would I Lie To You?
Chief Commercial Officer
Vincent Vandendael joined Lloyd’s in December 2012, having previously been Chief Executive Officer of Global Corporate business for Zurich Insurance in Asia Pacific, based in Hong Kong. Vincent is responsible for promoting and protecting Lloyd’s business across the globe, seeking new business opportunities and monitoring the development of emerging markets, whilst also managing Lloyd’s international operations.
Vincent started his insurance career as a financial lines underwriter and has more than 22 years of underwriting and general management experience with both Chubb and Zurich Insurance. Having lived and worked in Belgium, France, the United States, Switzerland and Hong Kong, he has gained extensive international experience and foreign business culture expertise.
Vincent holds a commercial engineering degree from the University of Leuven in Belgium. He is married, has four children, speaks several languages and lives in London.
CEO, MARSH UK & IRELAND
Mark joined Marsh in 2012. As CEO of Marsh Ltd., he is responsible for the UK and Ireland region and for its global London market business.
Under his tenure, Marsh has become the largest insurance broker in the UK. Mark sits on the steering group for the target operating model of Lloyd’s insurance market.
Mark’s recent projects have included leading work on cyber risk for the government and for TheCityUK.
Formerly a partner at sister company Oliver Wyman, Mark ran the global Retail Banking practice and latterly the EMEA region.
Chief Executive Officer, AXA Corporate Solutions UK Branch
Gaëlle Tortuyaux has served as CEO of AXA Corporate Solutions UK Branch since May 2015, following four successful years as Head of UK Property and Construction Underwriting. During 2014 Gaëlle also took responsibility for the Casualty Line of Business. In addition to her Underwriting responsibilities, Gaëlle was also in charge of developing and implementing Business Excellence and Service Delivery across the branch.
Prior to her move to the UK, Gaëlle held a number of positions providing extensive global experience across all areas of the business during her 18 years with AXA Corporate Solutions, including a period at AXA Insurance Co. in New York in 2001. This time has been mainly focused on P&C, although Gaëlle started her career working in Aviation and Specialty Markets. It was this initial experience which led Gaëlle to develop a global centre of technical expertise for Aerospace and Defence. Gaëlle managed Property Operations before moving to work with the Global Chief Underwriting Officer, where she was responsible for Property clients and for global strategic planning and implementation.
Gaëlle holds a master’s degree in Insurance Law, and speaks fluent French, English and basic Russian.
Head of Insurance at Heathrow Airport
Paul has worked in a variety of roles within the Insurance field for over 30 years, holding a number of senior Risk and Insurance positions in the Banking, Retail and Media sectors at a number of FTSE 100 companies. Since January 2010 he has been Director of Insurance at Heathrow Airport. Paul is Deputy Chairman at AIRMIC, and until 2010 was a director of the Institute of Risk Management.
Paul has been on the Airmic Board for 7 years.
BA Hons; ACII Partner Lockton Companies LLP Biography
Chris joined Lockton in June 2007 and is Partner and member of the UK LLP Board, Lockton International Holdings Board and is the Chairman of Lockton Global Partners. He is part of the International leadership team which has overseen the transformation and growth of the business in the last 10 years. In addition to his Board responsibilities, he oversees the retail and wholesale broking and client service operations of Lockton in the UK and Eire. In this role, Chris works with Lockton’s large and complex clients to find risk financing solutions to their varied business issues. Chris has worked in the London market for 30 years and has broad experience across multiple business sectors. Chris gained an honours degree from Nottingham University and also attended the Advanced Management Programme (AMP) at INSEAD.
